Technolog invented the world’s first flow modulated PRV Controller in 1992. In the early days these controllers were hydraulic taking an upstream pressure sample to drive an actuator and using solenoid valves to control the actuator. Problems with solenoid valves and grit / sand in the water blocking filters led Technolog to develop the next generation of flow modulated PRV controllers with pneumatic control.
The Modulo One flow modulated PRV Controller is pneumatic and can be used to provide Flow Modulated or Time based pressure control in water networks. In most scenarios flow modulated control is preferred as in this instance the controller can respond to fire flow requirements.
The PRV controller takes a pulsed output from the flow meter and controls the pilot of the PRV to regulate the downstream pressure. The Modulo One PRV Controller has an internal pressure transducer that is connected to the PRV outlet and a hose connection to a bias chamber, which when mounted on the underside of the pilot provides smooth and reliable control. The PRV controller is programmed with the flow profiles and pressure relationship between the valve and the “critical point”, then it will increase or reduce the target pressure based on the flow data from the flow meter and the pressure data from its internal pressure sensor.
